The BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society’s Position on No-Fault

No-fault motor vehicle insurance legislation will be disastrous for ensuring victim rights and access to justice for the citizens of the province. We have sent a letter to the Attorney General’s office advising both on the history of ICBC and alternative measures that would allow us to solely focus on root cause prevention of accidents in the first place.

Peace Arch News: Charges dropped against officer who shot and killed Hudson Brooks in South Surrey

Charges against the officer who shot and killed South Surrey’s Hudson Brooks four years ago have been dropped.

The B.C. Prosecution Service announced Wednesday that a stay of proceedings against Const. Elizabeth Cucheran has been entered on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

If you were to die because a texting driver ran you down or a surgeon left a scalpel behind after an operation, what compensation would the courts award your loved ones?

If you’re over 65, it’s very little. If you live in B.C., it’s probably nothing at all. Before any payment for a wrongful death, the surviving spouse, adult children or estate has to prove the death was due to negligence and that damages resulted. Proving negligence is extremely costly — and showing damages can be impossible.
