What is the BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society

‘In Their Name’ is the campaign of ‘The BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society’. Our goal is to modernize British Columbia’s antiquated wrongful death legislation, which predates confederation (1846). Under current legislation, the value of a human life is measured only by the deceased’s future lost income, so long as they had dependents. All other provinces, including the Yukon have long since modernized. Only in BC is everyone’s life, except for breadwinners, worthless under the law. No “worth” means no “damages” to pursue in civil court. No “damages”, means no “justice”, and accordingly no accountability for wrongdoers.

Social Media Community Manager Duties

We are looking for candidate(s) to join our volunteer team, specifically to undertake the following:

#1 Manage all social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, TikTok) creating content, engaging with commenters, and inviting users to like/follow pages, while keeping up with a healthy, active feed

#2 Brainstorm promotion, digital events, and community-building ideas

#3 Monitor and capitalize on social media & viral trends

#4 Create a variety of long- and short-form written content

#5 Researching ways to redistribute and promote content via news websites, blogs, forums, and social influencers. Engaging with these key content channels to have the content of the BCWDLRS featured

#6 Finding and contacting influencers to spread the word

#7 Engaging with MLAs on social media and eliciting community dialogue

The Type of Person We’re Looking for

#1 Degree or background in communications or someone with experience in social media management looking to expand their portfolio of experience

#2 Ambitious, hard-working, with excellent communication and creative skills who is excited about helping change the future of the province.

#3 Someone who is “social media savvy” and has experience creating video content for digital channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) and is keen to learn new skills.

#4 Results-oriented – someone who’s excited by the opportunity of being able to say they, for example, reached and engaged with over 1,000,000+ British Columbians, which ultimately led to BC’s legislation being modernized. We want you to be able to note the results you achieved in your portfolio of career experience

Time Investment

This is a part-time, unpaid volunteer position for which we are seeking a time investment of ideally 8 hours per week. This is a remote position.

Interested? Here’s How to Get in Touch

Please fill out and submit the form below along with your resume and/or portfolio.
