John Horgan the Premier of BC is the Chief Virtue Signaller in charge.
He likes to grandstand and race hustle on social issues where he gets people fired up, but doesn’t actually have to do any work.
He has been completely silent on BC’s biggest human rights crisis and most discriminatory piece of legislation on the books – our antiquated wrongful death laws.
What we present here is an alternative to the proposed No-Fault insurance scheme announced in February 2020. An approach focused on root cause prevention of accidents would be a win-win for the government and the province.
The No-Fault is a win for the government, and a huge loss for the victims of motor vehicle accidents.
The BC Wrongful Death Law Society to NDP MLA Mitzi Dean:
“I’m writing to you today to formally introduce our organization to you, and secondly to inform you of a massive inequity in both our current and upcoming proposed legislation that we felt pertinent to bring to your attention.”
British Columbians have amnesia. We fought and beat the the most discriminatory piece of proposed legislation against victim rights in BC history, the No-Fault ICBC Motor Vehicle Insurance Legislation, 23 years ago.
Now it’s back, disguised under the Orwellian “doublespeak” name: “Enhanced Care Coverage”.
The BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society has sent a letter to Attorney General David Eby on March 9, 2020, with legislative recommendations to modernize our antiquated 174 year old wrongful death legislation.
BC is presently the last of all the provinces, including the Yukon, yet to modernize its legislation, to ensure that all lives have value, dignity, and legislative protection under the law.
2024 Election – David Eby & the BC NDP have failed to keep their promise to modernize BC’s wrongful death laws within their 2020-2024 mandate of government.
John Rustad and the Conservative Party of BC have committed to modernize if elected.
